YouTube is turning Ask YouTube into a research-to-checkout tool, not just an answer box. The company previewed the upgrade on September 23, 2026, at its Made on YouTube event, unveiling comparison tables built from creator reviews, category-based recommendations, visual search that returns timestamps inside a video, and comment-section summaries, all ending with a tap-through to a retailer’s site. A demonstration posted September 25 on the Creator Insider channel showed a viewer researching cameras, narrowing options through a spec table, and adding an item to a cart on an external store. The feature is US-only for now, with YouTube describing timing only as “very soon.”

What YouTube has not said matters as much as what it showed. The company has not disclosed how it ranks competing products in the comparison table, where the underlying spec data comes from, whether ads can appear inside Ask YouTube answers, or whether merchants pay a commission on resulting sales.

Brands should treat the comparison table as a new visibility surface to monitor, since inclusion there may soon matter more than search rank.
