Microsoft is trying out the label “AI Overviews” on the generative answer box that sits above Bing search results, according to screenshots shared on X. The Copilot logo remains next to the box, but the wording beneath it now matches the term Google uses for its own AI answer block in Google Search results. Outside the test, Bing still calls the same feature “Copilot Search.”
The swap is notable because Bing built its own brand around Copilot, and borrowing a rival’s exact terminology for a competing feature is an unusual choice for a company that has spent two years pushing Copilot as a distinct product name. Sachin Patel first spotted the mobile version of the change and posted it on X; Search Engine Watch also picked it up.
Whether the rename sticks or reverts before wider rollout is not yet known. Teams tracking Bing’s AI Overviews for citation and traffic changes should treat the label itself as unstable and monitor the underlying answer box behavior instead of the name attached to it.
Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz reported the test, citing screenshots first posted to X.
