OpenAI pushed a batch of ChatGPT Ads updates on Friday, adding conversion-optimized bidding, average daily budgets, geographic exclusions and mobile-app measurement integrations, according to a Search Engine Land product note from paid media editor Anu Adegbola. Every capability on the list already exists inside Google Ads and Meta Ads. OpenAI is closing a measurement gap on an ad platform that has run since launch without the attribution tooling performance marketers expect.
Advertisers can now select a Conversions objective to run optimized cost-per-click campaigns, where delivery is steered toward clicks more likely to convert while billing stays tied to valid clicks rather than outcomes. Daily budgets, beginning next week, shift from a fixed daily cap to an average across a rolling seven-day window with automatic intraday pacing, letting spend move day to day inside a weekly ceiling. Geo exclusion arrives as the inverse of the location-inclusion controls OpenAI shipped in May, and Automatic Advanced Matching now uses hashed customer data to attribute more web conversions. A new Bulk API supports asynchronous creation and editing of campaigns, ad groups and ads, and product feed campaigns are getting refreshed cards with pricing and star ratings.
The more consequential change sits in app measurement. OpenAI added integrations with AppsFlyer and Adjust to attribute app installs and in-app events, first reported by PPC Land’s Luis Rijo on July 26. Adjust treats ChatGPT Ads as a standard ad network rather than a self-attributing one, meaning Adjust performs the attribution itself and pushes results back to OpenAI through callbacks. Setup requires five credentials, and one of them, the pixel ID, is the same identifier OpenAI already uses for web conversion tracking. That is a structural detail: it means app and site conversions now run on a shared identity spine instead of two separate measurement systems.
Two more setup details matter more than they first appear. Three of the mandatory callback fields carry revenue and currency data, not just a conversion flag, which points toward value-based optimization rather than counting installs alone. Setup also generates an impression URL, an artifact that implies view-through measurement OpenAI had not previously documented for ChatGPT ad campaigns. The integrations are live in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Japan and South Korea, with Mexico and Brazil listed as coming soon.
None of this is new to performance marketing. Conversion-optimized bidding, rolling-window budgets, geo exclusion and mobile attribution partnerships are features Google Ads and Meta Ads advertisers have used for years. The gap those tools closed at ChatGPT Ads is the reason it matters now: ChatGPT ad CPMs fell from $60 at launch to as low as $25 by April, a decline driven in part by buyers who could not prove what their spend produced. Attribution plumbing does not raise CPMs by itself, but its absence is a documented reason CPMs fell, and its presence removes an excuse advertisers had for staying cautious.
Teams running app-install campaigns on ChatGPT Ads should treat the AppsFlyer and Adjust integrations as a green light to test value-based bidding against revenue callbacks before assuming platform-reported conversions are directly comparable to Google or Meta numbers. The shared pixel ID also means any privacy or consent review already done for ChatGPT Ads web tracking needs to extend to app implementations before launch, not after.
