ChatGPT is testing color-coded labels on its organic product results, with a green tag for the “best all-rounder” and grey tags naming the best pick for other criteria. Brodie Clark spotted the test and posted it to X and his SERP Alert site. Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz reported on it October 6.
Other labels in the test include “best for beginners” and “best cushioning.” Clark describes the experiment as an expansion of an earlier version of the labels.
This is a test, and OpenAI has not made a statement about it. Nothing in the report says whether the labels will reach all users or how ChatGPT chooses which product earns each one.
Schwartz expects the labels to lift the share of shoppers who click through to these listings. That is his expectation, not measured data. Merchants should watch for which of their products receive labels and compare referral traffic before and after.
