Google has updated its page experience help documentation to reference the experimental CrUX ad metrics, which we covered when they launched on September 16. What is new here: the metrics now appear inside the “Page experience resources” section of Google’s own guidance, describing ad count, ad density, and ad weight as ways to understand “real users’ ad experiences on your site, as seen and reported by Chrome.”

John Mueller told Search Engine Roundtable on Bluesky, “We included them because they’re available as metrics to help evaluate the state of your site. Not everything is a direct search ranking factor! There are plenty of ways to improve the experience of a website, and sometimes having metrics makes it easier to discuss / work on it, “SEO” or not.”

Google has previously sent mixed signals on page experience, at one point denying it was a direct ranking factor before confirming Core Web Vitals as one. Sites carrying heavy ad loads should monitor these CrUX figures as a diagnostic input, not as evidence of an imminent ranking change.
