Google shipped Ads Editor 2.13 on Friday, extending AI Max to Shopping campaigns with automated text generation, expanded URL controls, brand-list options and URL exclusions built directly into the offline bulk-management tool. The release also adds a User Attestation field for flagging AI-generated ad assets and drops the option to build new Video Action campaigns. Search Engine Land’s Anu Adegbola detailed the update on July 24.
The practical change is where the controls live, not that they exist. AI Max for Shopping has been rolling out in the web interface since Google closed its global beta in May. Search Engine Roundtable, in a separate report published the same day, found that more advertisers had begun seeing AI Max Shopping options, including automated text edits and final URL expansion, appear directly in their accounts. Editor 2.13 moves that same control set into the desktop application agencies and in-house teams use to manage large campaign sets at once.
That gap mattered because Editor exists for bulk operations: uploading, editing and pushing changes across many campaigns without touching the web console one at a time. Before this release, a team standardizing AI Max across a large Shopping account had to configure it campaign by campaign in the browser. Full parity between Search, Performance Max and Shopping inside Editor removes that workaround.
The more consequential addition is the User Attestation field. Advertisers must now flag image and video assets that were generated with AI, a disclosure control Google positions as compliance tooling inside Editor. The timing lines up with the EU AI Act’s Article 50 transparency requirement, which obliges providers to disclose AI-generated or manipulated content and takes effect August 2, 2026. A field built for campaign management is becoming the record advertisers rely on to document that disclosure, whether Google frames it that way publicly or not.
Google has not said whether attestation data feeds into any formal EU disclosure workflow or functions as an internal flag Google alone can audit. That distinction determines whether the field is a verifiable compliance record or a self-reported checkbox with no verification behind it.
Editor 2.13 also adds:
- Customer Retention Goals for Performance Max, letting advertisers optimize toward re-engaging existing customers rather than only new-customer acquisition
- New fields for Business Name and a separate Business Logo, now usable when building responsive video ads and non-skippable video ad formats
- Demand Gen campaigns can now target Maps placements directly from Editor
- Native Channel Performance reporting that narrows the reporting gap between Editor and the standard Google Ads interface
The retirement of new Video Action campaign creation follows their migration to Demand Gen, continuing Google’s move away from that legacy format.
Agencies running Shopping accounts at scale should treat the User Attestation field as a recordkeeping requirement ahead of the August 2 EU deadline, not an optional metadata tag. Teams still managing campaigns through the web interface should move their Shopping AI Max configuration into Editor before it becomes the default bulk workflow.
