A Google Ads label previewed back in June has now surfaced on live search results. Marketer Sachin Patel posted screenshots on X showing “Strongest match” and “Strong match” badges attached to Sponsored results, marking the first confirmed sighting of the feature outside Google’s own preview.
Google Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin had flagged the coming test in June, saying the badges were meant to help shoppers pick out the strongest sponsored result at a glance and help sellers reach shoppers who are close to a purchase. The company said the labeling draws on relevance and ad-quality signals already baked into ranking, not a new criterion.
That detail matters more than the badge itself. Because the signals feeding the label already factor into how ads rank, the test appears to change what searchers see on the page without changing which ad wins the auction slot underneath it.
Neither Google’s June announcement nor Patel’s screenshots describe any reporting tied to the label, so advertisers currently have no way to see when their own ads earned it. Treat the rollout as a searcher-facing trust signal to monitor in the wild, not a lever available inside the account yet.
Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz reported the sighting between August 7 and August 9, 2026, citing Sachin Patel’s screenshots on X.
