January 31, 2027 is the date Google gave Merchant Center advertisers for enforcing its 500 by 500 pixel product image minimum. Google emailed the deadline directly to advertisers and users, turning a documented policy floor into a scheduled enforcement window.

Search Engine Roundtable first flagged the 500 by 500 minimum in June, sourced to Google’s help documentation. The email is what changes now: Google is committing to a hold date rather than leaving the guidance open ended.

Google still recommends images of 1500 by 1500 pixels or larger for best results across listing formats, and 500 by 500 remains only the floor, not a target. Accounts with smaller images will see an “Image too small” warning inside Merchant Center, and Google’s updated help page carries a new notice banner spelling out the same cutoff.

Retailers treating that documented minimum as informal guidance should audit feed image dimensions well before January 2027 to avoid disapproved listings once enforcement starts.
