Google may be testing a related searches module that labels its suggestions as based on browsing activity rather than search queries. Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz reported the sighting Thursday, citing a screenshot posted to X by Sachin Patel showing a box titled “Related searches based on your browsing.” Schwartz was explicit that the mechanism is unconfirmed: Google could be drawing on Chrome history, or it could simply be reusing an existing personalization signal under a new label. No second sighting has surfaced, and Google has not commented.
The distinction matters. A module built on personal browsing is a different product from one built on aggregate query data, both for the person reading the suggestions and for anyone trying to explain why a given result appeared. If the label is accurate, two users running the identical query could see different related-search paths, complicating query-level reporting that assumes a shared onward journey. That remains conditional on Google confirming what actually feeds the box.
