Google Merchant Center’s AI performance insights report is now generally available, ending a run of quiet regional expansions with a formal announcement. The report went live for retailers in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United States, according to Search Engine Roundtable. The timing matters: holiday shopping campaigns are already being built, and merchants now have a stable reporting surface instead of a rolling test.

The general-availability news is less a launch than a formalization. Search Engine Roundtable had already documented the report’s expansion to those five countries two weeks earlier and its addition of intent, search-term, and attribute metrics roughly a week after that. Google simply had not announced either move when they happened. That sequencing matters for merchants who track platform changes through Google’s own posts: relying only on official announcements would have left them two weeks behind competitors already reading the data.

Alongside the reporting update, Google is rolling out a simplified integration for its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), the framework that lets third-party checkout systems plug into Google Shopping surfaces. Merchants who connect through the UCP hub can now enable cart transfer to their own site and enhanced checkout flow testing, with “analytics and more coming soon,” Google said. Three integrations are included: transfer to merchant cart, native checkout on Google, and identity linking.

Availability here is uneven, and the distinction is the story. The simplified UCP integration is rolling out gradually in the U.S. now. Australia and Canada are not included yet; Google said they will follow “early next year.” UCP analytics, a separate dashboard covering checkout performance, is also part of this release, though Google did not specify a country list or a general-availability date for it. Merchants outside the U.S. should treat both UCP features as pending, not live.

Google also used the announcement to push two feed-optimization tactics. The video link attribute lets merchants power “highly visual, shoppable ad formats” automatically, while submitting conversational attributes adds context Google says helps its AI systems describe products more accurately in shopping surfaces. Google separately recommended connecting loyalty program data to Merchant Center, saying it surfaces member perks and pricing across Google’s shopping properties. Neither recommendation came with performance data attached; both are framed as best practices rather than measured wins.

The source material for this update is a Google blog post and a short product video, not an independent audit. Search Engine Roundtable’s report does not include third-party measurement of how the AI performance insights report or the UCP checkout flow have changed conversion or return rates for merchants already using them. Retailers evaluating whether to prioritize UCP integration this quarter are working from Google’s own framing of the benefit.

For merchants in the five newly general-availability countries, the AI performance insights report is a checklist item, not a wait-and-see. Confirm access in Merchant Center this week, since holiday campaign budgets are typically locked well before Black Friday. For merchants in Australia and Canada, the calculus is different: UCP checkout capabilities remain a 2027 planning item, not a Q4 lever, and testing should wait until Google confirms the rollout has actually started.

Search Engine Roundtable, citing Google’s September 16, 2026 announcement, first reported these Merchant Center updates.
