Microsoft Advertising has opened a closed beta for Copilot Audience Generation, a tool that builds audience segments for Audience campaigns from a plain-language description of a target customer. Advertisers type a description into the platform’s targeting section, then Copilot returns AI-generated and recommended segments built from Microsoft’s own audience-intelligence data, drawing on first-party signals handled in a privacy-safe way. PPC News Feed, which spotted the update via Hana Kobzová, reported the beta on September 21, 2026, covering the US, Canada, UK and Australia.
The feature carries real constraints. Advertisers cannot exclude audiences, cannot build LinkedIn audiences through it, get reports-only visibility into performance, cannot share segments across accounts, and may wait up to 72 hours before an audience activates. It works only within Audience campaigns; other campaign types are unsupported for now.
Those limits mean teams should treat the tool as a segment-discovery shortcut rather than a full targeting workflow, since exclusions and cross-account sharing still require manual setup. Advertisers running Audience campaigns in the eligible markets should request beta access now to compare Copilot-generated segments against their existing audience lists before wider availability changes the baseline.
