Validate Fix in Search Console does not tell you whether a fix worked. It tells Google to recheck faster. John Mueller explained on Google’s Search Off the Record podcast that clicking the button prompts Search Console to sample the URLs flagged under an issue. If that sample looks clean, Google queues the remaining known-affected URLs for a faster recrawl rather than waiting for its normal crawl schedule.
Validation runs per issue, not per URL. One sampled page still showing the problem fails the whole check, so the button assumes every instance is resolved before you click it. Large sites can speed things up by pointing validation at one sitemap of priority URLs before running it against everything else.
Martin Splitt, also on the episode, noted that the page indexing report gets treated like a checklist to clear rather than a diagnostic tool. Teams chasing a clean dashboard should skip the button on cosmetic swings and reserve it for confirmed server or CDN failures, where faster recrawl actually recovers dropped pages sooner.
