Volatility readings climbed again on Tuesday and Google still has not confirmed an update. Around that, platforms moved dates and labels while leaving the underlying questions open.
Reading The Signals: Volatility, Reports and Crawl Rules
Three items ask the same question: what does the data on your screen actually prove? Check the Performance report before you touch a page.
- Fourth Unconfirmed Google Ranking Wave Hits Oct. 27 Tracker readings rose above the Oct. 24 spike, but the evidence is forum threads and third-party tools that have been unreliable lately. Compare Search Console clicks for Oct. 26 and 27 with the prior week, split by Discover and web search, before editing anything.
- Mueller Tells SEOs a Lagging Page Indexing Report Is Not Worth the Worry Mueller gave no bug confirmation and no fix date for a graph frozen since Oct. 16, pointing instead to impressions and clicks. A stale chart with healthy Performance data and normal crawl activity looks like a reporting lag, not an indexing drop.
- Google Clarifies Favicons Need Crawlable Homepage Redirects If your root domain redirects to a language folder or another host, every hop to the favicon page must stay open to Googlebot. Test the full path against your robots.txt rules.
Platform Moves: Dates Shift, Questions Stay
Meta and Google each changed a label or a calendar entry this week. The mechanics underneath did not move.
- Meta Delays Its Business Terms to Nov. 20, Crawl Permission Intact The pause is voluntary, and the paragraph that lets Meta crawl business sites is unchanged. Use the extra three weeks to check how your robots.txt treats each Meta crawler before continued use counts as agreement.
- Google Calls Discover Source-Tap Block an Experiment Bug Rajan Patel says the experiment is off, yet the researcher who found it reports a new test named “aio tap falls through to hero” is already live. Keep tapping sources on your own Discover AI cards and log the dates beside referral changes.
Answers And Agents: Who Supplies The Facts
Demand for lookups in ChatGPT is real but hard to price, and Shopify is turning store policy into something agents read directly.
- ChatGPT Lookups Briefly Topped Writing, OpenAI Data Shows The August crossover was 20.7% to 20.6%, and writing took the lead back in September. All of it is OpenAI’s own classification, and the merged information-seeking label hides how much is commercial intent.
- Shopify Folds Its AI Agent Knowledge Base Into Merchant Admin Return policies, shipping times, and brand values now live under Sales channels, then Agentic. Merchants with more than 1,000 facts in the old app must re-enter what they want to keep before Jan. 15, 2027.
