Google Discover stopped loading reliably for a stretch of several hours on September 1, with users reporting the feed hanging, showing stale content, or failing outright on mobile.

Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable documented the disruption after users flagged it on X. Valentin Pletzer raised the first alert, and Damien Andell followed with outage data showing a measurable traffic drop starting around 10

a.m. GMT+2, including a chart specific to French Discover traffic.

Discover sits outside Google’s regular web results, but it is a significant referral source for publishers who rely on mobile app placements rather than search queries. A feed that silently serves a cached or stale version, rather than erroring outright, is harder for site owners to catch through normal analytics checks.

Andell’s own follow-up post indicated the feed was recovering by 7

a.m. ET. Neither Google nor Search Engine Roundtable identified a cause, and no root-cause statement or incident report followed.

Publishers who saw a Discover traffic dip on September 1 should treat it as an infrastructure event rather than a ranking or policy signal, and confirm recovery against their own Search Console Discover data before drawing conclusions.
