Google is displaying a units sold badge inside Google Shopping ad listings, reading “200+ sold last” week or a comparable figure depending on the product.
The label was flagged by Arpan Banerjee, who shared a screenshot on LinkedIn and noted that Google’s use of the badge has become more frequent in Shopping ads recently. Search Engine Roundtable reported the sighting on September 8.
The badge functions as a built-in social proof signal, similar to velocity indicators long used on marketplaces like Amazon, but it sits inside a paid ad unit rather than an organic listing. Merchants running Shopping campaigns have no stated mechanism to enable, disable, or verify the figure themselves.
Google has not published documentation describing the badge’s eligibility rules, data source, or rollout scope. The sighting also has not been confirmed as a broad rollout versus a limited test.
Retail advertisers should check their own Shopping ad previews for the badge and treat any sales-velocity number attached to their listings as a factor to monitor, not one they currently control.
Search Engine Roundtable reported the sighting, based on a September 8, 2026 post from Barry Schwartz.
