Google is testing a paginated format for follow-up responses inside AI Mode, breaking a single generative answer into a sequence of screens with a skip button attached.
The test was spotted by Sachin Patel, who posted screenshots on X showing the mobile and desktop versions side by side. Patel wrote that after a user submits an answer, AI Mode generates a new query within the same chat based on that response, then presents the result in paginated form rather than as one continuous reply.
Search Engine Roundtable, which covers Google search product tests closely, first reported the sighting. The mechanic adds a navigation layer inside the answer itself: instead of scrolling through one long response, a user pages through follow-up turns and can skip ahead.
Every screen a user pages through before reaching a link is another point where a session can end inside Google’s interface rather than on a publisher’s site. Google has not confirmed a rollout timeline or said whether the format reaches general availability.
Sites relying on AI Mode referral traffic should watch how multi-turn sessions resolve, since a paginated flow with a skip option changes how many turns a user completes before clicking out.
