Google is testing a sign-in prompt that appears directly inside an AI Mode response, showing a full Google logo alongside a button reading “Sign in to save your…” rather than routing the request through a standard account menu.

The test was spotted by Sachin Patel, who shared a screenshot on X. AI Mode, Google’s conversational search experience, has not previously interrupted its answer stream to request authentication, so the placement itself is notable.

Google has not confirmed what signed-in status would unlock. Saved results and session memory that sharpens follow-up prompts are the most plausible outcomes, though neither has been verified through official documentation.

An account-gated layer inside generative answers would mark a shift from classic search, where sign-in has never been a precondition for seeing results. Search teams tracking AI Mode should watch for account-linked personalization signals in query behavior data, since that would change how visibility gets measured for AI-driven answers.

Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz first reported the test.
