Google Merchant Center briefly displayed raw AI prompt text in place of a finished performance insight, giving merchants an unintended look at the scaffolding behind an automated reporting feature.

Vipul Kumar spotted the issue and posted a screenshot on LinkedIn, noting that the surface showed instructions rather than the polished summary it normally generates. The exposed text covered what the model was told to analyze, rules to follow, per-product click data, logic for selecting which product to highlight, response templates, and a final quality check before output.

Search Engine Roundtable reported the glitch on September 7, describing it as temporary and not especially revealing. Google has not commented on the cause.

The episode is a minor reminder that AI-generated reporting surfaces run on editable prompt logic, not fixed formulas, and that logic can occasionally leak. Merchants relying on Merchant Center’s AI insights should treat any anomalous or oddly formatted summary as a rendering issue worth a screenshot, not a data problem worth troubleshooting.
