A link missing from Search Console does not mean Google has not seen it, according to Search Engine Roundtable. Google has long said the links report shows only a sample, and that is not a new position. The report even lists links a site has already disavowed.

The reminder came after an SEO on Reddit asked whether to worry about spam links arriving daily that Semrush flagged and Search Console did not. John Mueller of Google replied that Search Console’s display should not be the yardstick, and that random spammy links can simply be ignored.

That makes the report a poor foundation for a link audit. Because it is a partial view, a clean report proves little, and an unflagged link proves nothing about Google’s awareness. Search Engine Roundtable noted that Google has also repeatedly discouraged disavowing based on third-party toxicity scores.

Audit with several data sources, and reserve disavow work for a real pattern of paid or manipulative links. Random junk deserves no budget.
