Google loosened its AdSense video rules on Oct. 22, deleting two conditions that governed where publishers could place accompanying video and how sticky players behave. Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz reported the edit on Oct. 23, after comparing the live policy page with an archived copy.
Before the change, Accompanying Content had to be loaded inside the page body. Sticky players had to begin in the main content and turn sticky only once a user scrolled them out of view. Google’s notice says both requirements are gone, and it frames the update as clarity about which Accompanying Content types may monetize.
Google also cautioned that restricted video content can attract fewer ads than unrestricted content. That caveat stays, so the looser rules do not guarantee ad fill. Publishers running video in sidebars, footers or floating players should test those layouts against ad delivery and track revenue per session before redesigning pages around the new freedom.
