Google Ads is set to extend its channel performance report in 2027 to the everyday Search and Shopping campaign types, according to updated Google Ads help documentation. Hana Kobzová spotted the change.

The revised Performance Max channel definition page says the channel definitions already cover Demand Gen as well as Performance Max. Search and Shopping follow next year. Google has not published a month for that expansion.

A second change carries more near-term risk. Google’s documentation replaces the legacy “x” placement code with specific codes: “m” for Maps, “gm” for Gmail, and “dsc” for Discover. Teams that pipe Google Ads data into GA4 or a CRM should check that their tracking filters recognize each parameter. Filters built around “x” could mislabel traffic.

The practical angle for search teams is attribution. A channel breakdown that includes Search and Shopping would change how budgets are compared across campaign types, though Google has not detailed the report’s layout.

Audit any filter or dashboard rule that matches on the old code this quarter, well before Search and Shopping data starts arriving in the new format.
