Google Ads has replaced its help page on bid-strategy learning with a longer document titled “About Smart Bidding learning,” Search Engine Roundtable reported Oct. 21. The page states that the Learning status lasts seven days at most, and it treats that label as distinct from the period a strategy needs before results settle.

Three events trigger Learning: a newly created or reactivated strategy, campaigns, ad groups, or keywords added to or removed from it, and a major shift in the conversion goals being optimized. Budget, target, creative, and targeting edits (location, audience, or language) do not trigger it, according to Google.

The listed best practices call for one consistent primary conversion goal, enough daily budget, consolidated campaigns that pool data, and restraint on stacking target edits inside one conversion window.

For account managers, the seven-day ceiling gives a concrete point to investigate a campaign that still shows Learning. It also removes a reason to hold back budget adjustments for fear of a reset.
