Google is piloting car dealership inventory on Business Profiles, and access is limited to dealers who apply. Google added a section titled “Car dealership inventory (limited availability)” to its profile help documentation, Search Engine Roundtable reported on Thursday.
Google describes the pilot as showing available sales inventory on dealership profiles, where shoppers can browse and filter the vehicles. Dealers, or agencies working with them, can request access through an interest form. Once approved, they manage listings under Edit Profile, then Cars for Sale, where they choose whether to show vehicles and pick preferred data providers.
Barry Schwartz noted that the pilot looks much like dealer-inventory features Google offered years ago in Business Profiles. He also said it differs from sponsored vehicle ads.
Google has not said how many dealers are included, when the pilot might widen, or whether inventory will influence local ranking. Agencies with automotive clients should submit the interest form now and confirm which data providers feed their clients’ inventory, since that choice is part of the setup.
